Meet Jem

Updated: Jan 10, 2018

After my first interview, I wanted to find out how other people who identify as non-binary express their gender through fashion and if they had experienced the same sizing issues as Will.

Jem Wright is a non-binary student from Portsmouth University and prefers to be addressed by the gender neutral pro-nouns 'they/them'. As a child Jem was known for being a tomboy but it wasn't until they was 16 and joined the LGBT community that they heard the term non-binary and realised it fit. On the topic of gender, Jem said: "Gender and sexuality is more of an abstract feeling based thing and that is really hard to put neat lines and boxes around."

“With fashion there definitely needs to be a lot more of people just wearing what they want."
