Health and the third gender

During my research, I found a recent article about a study by Transgender Europe (TGEU) which revealed identifying outside the gender binary translates into worse health.

In the 2017 study, TGEU gathered responses from 885 transgender healthcare users and found that 230 of them identified as non-binary. The health study revealed that 78% of the participants have thought of suicide and 25% of them have had at least one attempt. Non-binary people were reported to be twice as likely to self-report their health as bad than transgender people. The study also showed that non-binaries are the group with the highest risk of poor mental health. A huge 80% of non-binary people reported that they didn’t know a doctor that they could turn to without fear of being discriminated.

If any non-binary person is reading this blog and is struggling with their identity, please know you’re not alone and there is help out there. Please refer to the list below if you aren’t sure who to turn to.
